How to make effective Resume by Bilal Merchant
In Mumbra, many young people carry strong ambitions but limited access to professional guidance. Despite having education or skills, they often feel invisible in the job market. Community-driven initiatives become lifelines in such moments, restoring not only opportunity but also dignity. One such effort unfolded on Friday evening, 20 October 2023, when AWAAM organised an online session on How to Make an Effective Resume, creating a meaningful bridge between talent and employment.

This workshop arrived at a crucial time. With rising competition and economic pressure on families across Thane and Maharashtra, employment has become more than a career goal—it is a necessity. Many from Indian Muslim and other marginal communities face rejection not due to lack of ability, but due to weak resumes and limited awareness of employer expectations.
The core issue addressed was simple yet powerful: the absence of basic resume writing knowledge. A poorly structured resume often closes doors before candidates can even speak. This gap affects confidence, income stability, and long-term social mobility.
To respond, AWAAM India Foundation NGO designed a focused, community-centred learning space. Led by Bilal Merchant, B.Tech, Data Analyst, and Educator, the 40-minute Zoom session guided participants through resume fundamentals, professional etiquette, and what recruiters actually look for. The learning experience continued with a job fair, offering immediate exposure to opportunities.
The session engaged 52 participants from Mumbra and nearby areas. Over 85% reported clearer understanding of resume structure, while several attendees connected directly with potential employers during the job fair.
Looking ahead, AWAAM plans more career-readiness programs to strengthen community welfare and social impact.
